This is the first time they've ever done this; they shut down the Champs Elysee to traffic and put a bunch of gardens up, complete with farm animals. It was cool but there were so many people there you could hardly move. The purpose was to promote farmers and agriculture and all that important stuff. I liked seeing how leeks are grown since I use so many of them now in my cooking...
Our friends Mike and Diane, who came to our wedding a year ago, got married a few weeks ago in a tiny village. It was really charming. In France, you have to have a civil ceremony first regardless of whether you're having a church wedding. So everyone gathered at the little village town hall first where the local mayor married them. Then on to a tiny ancient church for the religious ceremony. Check out the train station for the village where we were. It was really a new experience!
I went to my friend Nina's to dye eggs. She lives in a tiny village outside of Paris. Her mom sent her an egg dye kit from Romania, where they are just as big on dying eggs as we are in the U.S. The kits are impossible to find in France; Eric and I tried our own at home with food coloring but it didn't work out too well. Nina just had a baby girl.
